The 13 foot-wide fireplace in the south wall of the Kitchen at Bodiam Castle, East Sussex, built between 1385 and 1388. It is lined with floor tiles laid edge-on to prevent cracking in the heat. Originally it would have had a projecting stone hood, carried on corbels.
